The Ultimate Santa Barbara Day Trip Itinerary

If you’ve never been to Santa Barbara, please, please, please check it out – there’s a reason it’s called the “American Riviera”.

I’ve been to Santa Barbara a handful of times since moving to LA and I’ve learned that the sun shines differently in Santa Barbara. Every time I go, I find yet another reason to fall in love with the Spanish-style coastal city. If all you’ve got is a day, don’t worry, I got you covered!

Breakfast & Coffee

When it comes to breakfast and coffee, you can’t go wrong with any of the choices below. I would never lead a fellow coffee drinker astray.

Handlebar Coffee Roasters – Not only does this place have all the vibes, but they also only roast coffee that’s environmentally conscientious. Coffee that tastes good and you can feel good about it.

Bree’osh – A local cafe serving exquisite baked goods! The menu is short enough not to be overwhelming but that doesn’t mean you won’t find something absolutely delicious.

On the Alley – If you’re looking for a savory breakfast, check out their breakfast burrito or breakfast sandwich. It’s a low-key place serving up nothing but flavor.

Lunch & Dinner

Over the years, I’ve tried a few different places in Santa Barbara. I always appreciate a cuisine that tastes authentic and these are my go-to’s!

Buena Onda – Hands down my favorite place to eat! Their empanadas are light, inspired, and tasty. The service is friendly, it’s like everyone there is having the best day, and their patio is adorable. I’ve never been disappointed.

East Beach Tacos – A hop, skip, and jump away from the beach, you’ll find some quick tacos for a decent price! Whether you’re interested in carne asada or ahi poke tacos, there’s a taco for you!

Finney’s Crafthouse & Kitchen – If you’re not quite sure what you’re in the mood for, this is a great option! The menu has pizzas, burgers, pasta, and a bit of everything in between.

Santo Mezcal – With both a fun vibe and great food, this should be a stop on your food tour. Try their queso fundito!

McConnell’s Fine Ice Cream – Okay, I know this isn’t lunch or dinner but you HAVE TO get ice cream when on a day trip. All of McConnell’s ice creams are made from scratch using the finest ingredients and it’s obvious by the taste and texture. There are two locations in SB so I recommend checking out both in one day if you can. You’re welcome.

Things to Do

State Street – Stroll downtown to State Street where you’ll be met by boutiques, restaurants, and lovely buildings. You’re guaranteed to be enticed into one of the many shops!

East Beach – With the spacious sandy coastline on one side and grassy parks with palm trees on the other, it makes this location perfect for any activity. Plus, the added bonus is that there are food spots nearby!

Old Mission – There are different tour options available so make sure to wear good walking shoes. On a really nice day, bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic.

I hope you swing through Santa Barbara soon and experience the magic for yourself!

All the love,

Hayden
